4th Quarter Turnaround

Wow aren't our goalies the best!!

Goalie is such a hard position to play and they are doing a wonderful job!!!!

Anesia is strting to really be able to kick the ball far and watching Taylor sacrifice herself for the ball -- let's hear it for our goalies!!!!

It was amazing to watch the girls turn around after a team member got hurt - it was as if the team was getting together and playing the game for her. Let's keep playing like that! =)

Game Today

The team (dragonflies) that we played against hasn't ever lost a game, played together, and had the same coach for two years and we sure gave them a run for their money. It was so close I was listening to their parents worry thinking this is fun.

That being said -- did you see JJ score??? YIPEE JAIDYN!! And of course the powerhouse Emily tore up the field --(way to go).

Remember the ball is ours and belongs in thier net. =) Please always try to be at games 30 minutes early so the girls can get their heads in the game and warmed up.

Practices

As much fun as it is to have the little sisters running around with us during practice, it is starting to get tough to coach. Please help us have better practices by keeping siblings off the field.

Thanks.

Tough Game

Wow what tough competitors we played against today! That little red-headed Riley on the WestLake team was amazing huh?

Every one played really well, and I saw some players do some pretty amazing things. Did you catch that kick Anesia punted from the goal in the last quarter?? Did anyone see Taylor take the ball down the field?

I acutally saw a couple of you so a runthrough---(YIPPPEEE!!)

Those were some big steps for some players.

That said -- what happened? We need to bring the kids together to work harder and more together to get better next time around.

The girls were happy had a great time and we played without our thunderfoot the first half and did pretty well! =)

All in all I had a great time.

The Angels in Action

A big thanks to Barbara Doty for sharing these wonderful images with us.

Practice on Monday October 8th is Cancelled

There will be no practice on Monday October 8th, but we will resume practice again on October 10th - Wednesday.

Idea to work on at home...

Drop kicks-- practice dropping the ball in front your daughter and have her kick it with the inside of her foot to the left.

In-Betweens------- First, to do the "in-betweens" stand with the soccer ball between your feet which are about shoulder widthapart. Using the inside of the right foot, tap the ball softly to the inside of the left foot. Then using theinside of the left foot, tap it back again to the inside of the right foot. The trick is to keep the ballconstantly moving between the feet as the player "hops" from foot to foot to prepare for the next touch.Once you get the hang of it, begin to move forward with each step by tapping the ball slightly forwardwith each touch. Eventually you should be able to keep the in-betweens going without a miss as you moveslowly all over the place.

Run Throughs ---Have the players toss the ball into the air and slightly in front of themselves. Then they should runthrough the bouncing ball to "push" it up the field. Contact can be made with head, chest, waist, thighs, shins or feet with just enough of a touch to begin the ball moving away.

Pull Backs--Start with the ball between your feet. Fake up to the top of the ball with your right foot in a kickingmotion, but stop with your cleats on top of the ball. Then "pull-back" the ball by "scraping" your cleatsbackwards to get the ball rolling behind you. Now you can turn either clockwise or counterclockwise toface the ball again. Practice alternating feet.

See you Wednesday!! =)

FUNDRAISER IS HERE!!!

At Saturday's game we will be handing out information about the fundraiser that we are doing to help EGYSL build a professional stadium! How fun it would be to see our girls out playing on a 6 field stadium!!!

The gist of it is that a minimum of 75% of all funds are dedicated to promoting and developiung a future soccer complex. The emaining 25% will be disbursed to the boards discreation (field imporvements, maintenance, equipment purchases) This year they hope to apply 100% of the funds to the soccer complex.

We are selling "EGYSL CARDS" It has offers from over 40 local merchants in the surrounding communities that you can use throughout the year. Each card sells fot $10.00. The EGSYL Card pays for itself in a few uses and can be used up through July 21,2008. Two cards are being sent home per player. You can purchase a card right away, and then show it to family, friends and neighbors and take their orders (collecting money up front)

Let me know if you need additional cards - they will be delivered to the club every two weeks. Cards sold by Oct 8 2007 will count towards a contest for prizes. The top seller in each age group will win a $50 gift certificate. The top overall seller will win a $250 Gift Certificate. The 2nd overall seller will win a $150 Gidt certificate and teh 3rd overall seller will receive a $100 Gift Certificate. In the event of a tie a drawing will be held to determine the winner. You may only win one prize.

We are being asked to support the League by helping with this sale.

All checks are to be made payable to EGYSL.

EGYSL Updates - Technical Area & refing from EGYSL

The technical area is only 10 yards and is defined as 5 yards each side of the center line, or about 5 adult strides on each side of the center line. As a coach, you are to stay within the technical area during active play, period. There have been reports of coaches and parents sending in instructions from outside the technical area. No coaching is allowed outside of this area!
Parents should also observe this rule; they should fan out from the center line when they arrive at the game and be a minimum of a yard or 3 feet back from the touch line. Parents are advised to stay near the center line as well (it’s tough not yelling out instructions to the kids as a parent, so they need to stay close to the technical area as well). By the way, there is a common complaint from the refs - no agent from your team shall be behind the goal, nor shall they be any closer than ten yards to the goal line (about 10 adult strides). A person there can be trying to distract an opposing player or trying to create an unfair advantage by coaching behind the goal line.
The third thing is coaches walking out on the field during play. Just so you know coaches shall not walk out on field unless given permission. Look for discipline coming on this issue and don’t let it be you.
The last thing I want to leave you with is refereeing. Did any of you watch the Women’s World Cup semi finals featuring the United States women’s team against the Brazilian women’s team??? There are a couple of things we can take from that game and apply to our own games.
The first thing I want to point out to you is the center ref, Nicole Petignat, is a very well known and competent referee and she is also paid very well to make correct calls.
The second thing is when USA player Shannon Boxx was called for her second foul. All she was doing was moving up and down the field and the Brazilian player ran over Boxx’s feet from behind and tripped. Did any of you see a foul in that??? It resulted in Boxx getting her second yellow card of the game, and automatically being issued a red card.
This is a highly paid, highly trained, and seasoned referee, did she make a mistake?
Think about this the next time that you have a kid or an adult at your game, may be they're just starting out. What about hen a ref makes a call, you have one side of the field saying “great call” and the other side wanting to throw rocks at them.
At this point as a coach, if I get some bad calls I’ll cut my losses and look at the positives that I can get from the game. Things like “did the kids do anything that they learned at practice?”, did we play well??

Keep up the good work. =)

Keep praticing at home.
Have mom or dad kick the ball to you and show them how you can control the ball (first touch) with your left foot at then return it with your right. Using the insides of your foot this time.
