Have you ever heard of the dummy kick?
In this offensive move the attacker places her weight on her left foot - (making the defendar think she is going to kick to the left) and then kicks to the right. (fake left kick right)
How about the pull back?
In this kick the attacker places her foot on the top of the ball and turns it around. This way the defensive is no longer in front of you but chasing you where you want them to be.
These are good moves to get past the increasingly steady defenses of the opposing team. Practicing them at home will only help. =)

Field Takedown next saturday
We are responsible for field take down on next saturday's game,October 6 2007 3:00 pm,As the last home team we are responsible for net and flag takedown.
We should please leave the packed up nets and flags at the fields for pick up by dedicated club field coordinators.
If you leave them in place, there is a high likelihood, as demonstrated in the past, that they will be damaged, destroyed, or stolen.

Fundraiser for a professional stadium!!!
As we discussed earlier, the Elk Grove SoccerLeague has implemented a fundraising program this year as a first steptowards raising dollars for a soccer complex. Elk Grove is one of the largest soccer leagues in the state without a professional stadium. The league hopes to change that. While the League board could have elected to raise registration fees even more this year in order to fund this project, the local Club Presidents believed we had more control over where the money went if a fundraiser were implemented and those funds were applied directly to the development of a soccer complex. As a result, we will deliver to you an envelope that will include instructions and two fundraiser cards for each player valued at $10.Each player is asked to sell two cards. The cards provide discounts on over 50 services in Elk Grove.

Cookie Dough Anyone?
Natalie's preschool (Bradshaw Christian) is having a fundraiser. For this she is selling Sally Foster cookie dough . We have preportioned cookies (48 cookies) for $14.00 and a three pound easy scoop tub for $12.00. They come in great flavors, chocolate chunk, peanut butter, m&ms, triple chocolate, sugar, reese's peanut butter cup, snickerdooble, oatmeal raisn, walnut chocolate chunk, and white chocolate macadamia nut.
These are great for christmas baking, and with the preportioned cookies you can take out some to cook now and freeze the rest for use later. 40% of the purchase goes to the school and Natalie can win some toys by selling.
We will be bringing the order form to practice on wednesday, so bring your checkbooks and your appetite. =)

THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE SOUTHWARD TO ALONG THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA COAST ON THURSDAY...BUT PORTIONS OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WILL SEE SHOWER CHANCES CONTINUING INTO SATURDAY.
PEOPLE SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR A SIGNIFICANT WEATHER CHANGE ACROSS THE REGION STARTING TODAY. EVEN LIGHT AMOUNTS OF RAIN WILL RESULT IN SLIPPERY CONDITIONS ON ROADWAYS DUE TO MONTHS OF DRY WEATHER ALLOWING OIL RESIDUES TO BUILD UP.
IF YOU ARE PLANNING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES BE PREPARED FOR COOL AND BLUSTERY WEATHER WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS...AND EVEN THE POSSIBILITY OF A DUSTING OF SNOW ACROSS THE HIGHEST ELEVATIONS OF THE NORTHERN SIERRA NEVADA...THE SOUTHERN CASCADES...AND THE INTERIOR COASTAL RANGE.

Situation at Adreani Fields
Good News. We have been given another opportunity to redeem ourselves. Our Vice President Larry Rodriquez has agreed to take responsibility for unlocking and locking the porta potty every day of the week for those of you who practice at Adreani. This is the only way we were able to convince the school to commit to keeping the porta potty on sight. This is a huge commitment, and Larry we owe you a huge debt of gratitude. Thank you!
Secondarily, our Field Manager Wes Hughes is working diligently with the school officials to get the fields at Adreani in better shape for practice and game day. Thank you Wes. Water has been cut back significantly. More specifically, there will no no watering of the fields on Friday or Saturday. Let's hope this works.

Some Statistics
There are 363 teams across the U6 to U14 age brackets, & each team has an equal number of home & away games.
There are 1709 games scheduled across 58 fields, 10 games for each U6-U10 team, and 8 games for each U11-U14 team. A post-season tourney will be scheduled after week 8 for all U11-U14 teams. This tourney will be held with 2 games week 9 (11/03) & 1 game week 10 AM (11/10), with the championship matches week 10 PM (11/10).
120 teams have bye weeks, with 39 U6-U10 teams playing in week 11 (11/17/06), and 81 U11-U14 teams playing double headers. Many of these U11-U14 teams plan to play in Rec tournaments during week 4, week 6, or week 8. Teams that play double headers will have at least 3 hours of break between games.
There are 31 head coaches that have 2 teams, and the schedule supports all being able to attend both of their games each week. There are 2 coaches that have 3 teams, and they too will be able to attend all of their games.
We did “soft” seeding of all the U8-U14 teams, however there are no “hard” brackets. You will never play the same team twice, and we hope this seeding will give you many competitive games throughout the season.

Field Setup
Home Fields:
All home fields have been painted for the Saturday games. Thank you to those teams who have agreed to help maintain the fields each week.
The Club will drop off the nets and flags to each field every Saturday.
The first team there is responsible for field set up. The last home team is responsible for net and flag takedown. Please leave the packed up nets and flags at the fields for pick up by dedicated club field coordinators. If you leave them in place, there is a high likelihood, as demonstrated in the past, that they will be damaged, destroyed, or stolen.
There are times where we will be responsible for setting or packing the nets and flags. The teams with the first games should plan to arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the game to put the nets in place.
We are responsible for feild setup on
October 20 2007 for the 9:00 game and need to be there at 8:15
October 27 2007 for the 10:30 game and need to be there at 9:45
Nov 3 2007 for the 9:00 game and need to be there at 8:15
We are responsible for feild take down on
October 6 2007 for the 3:00 pm game
We really need your help with this, with my job I might not be able to make it to complete this task at some of the games, (a drunk crashes at the end of shift, I get stuck waiting in the hospital or jail, any number of things can happen) With the afternoon game on takedown I will desperately need your help. So if we really need volunteers to aid in this - (plus I don't know if I'll be able to do it alone).
Please contact me asap if you are willing to help.
Thanks!

PGSL Newsletter
Game Schedules
We anticipate that the Elk Grove Youth Soccer League will distribute game schedules for all age groups early next week – September 3. We will email them to you immediately upon our receipt.
Spare the Air Days
Coaches must cancel practices on spare the air days when they are issued for our local area. Click on the following website to see if our area is having a spare the air day. A “Spare the Air” advisory is issued when the air quality index is forecast to be 127. At this website, you can sign up to receive an email when an alert is issued, http://sparetheair.com/aqmaps.cfm.
Sideline Etiquette
How many times have we heard "Kick it" or "Shoot! Shoot!" or "All the Way! " or "Pass the Ball" with various coaches and parents shouting to their sons or daughters during the game? At times too, many parents spread along the length of the touchline, attempt to tell each player exactly what to do, where to go, or how to do it. PGSC is requesting that coaches and parents provide minimal “coaching” duringthe game. We encourage you to provide positive reinforcement, cheer for all players, or, if possible, just relax and enjoy watching the children play. Also remember to provide only positive reinforcement to the referees.
Jamboree Recap
Our 3rd Annual Jamboree was a huge success thanks to all of you and to our sponsors. After all expenses were paid, we raised approximately $7,000. Now the most important decision: how would you like to see the proceeds applied? All decisions about proceeds must be made this soccer season, otherwise we are required to turn the funds over to the League for the general fund. We will develop a survey for our next newsletter and ask you and your parents to give us
your suggestions (e.g., soccer balls, practice shirts, coaching equipment, coaching classes, etc.)
Picture Day Make-Up
Picture Make-up Day is scheduled for Sunday, October 14 (location to be determined). This is exclusively for individual players who either missed our original picture day or who wish to re-take their picture. Please call Shooting Stars to schedule an appointment 1-800-311-7784.
Field Problems
If you have any concerns about the fields on which you are practicing, please contact our Field Coordinator Wes Hughes at WHughes@GCWallace.com so he can correct any problems
before game day. After games begin, if you play on a field out of our club boundaries and you have concerns about the field, report it immediately to Wes, so he can contact the appropriate club field coordinator and ask for corrections.
League Fundraising
As we announced at Coaches’ Night in July, the Elk Grove Youth Soccer League has asked us to participate in a fundraising program to get the League started towards SOCCER CLUB 2007 funding a soccer complex. We are one of the largestCalifornia Leagues without a state of the art soccer complex. Check out the complex built in Redding, California.www.reddingsoccerpark.com The Elk Grove League has committed to set aside 75 percent of the dollars raised from this 2007 fundraiser as seed money towards this goal. The remaining 25 percent will go towards upgrades to existing fields. In a couple of weeks, you will receive a package of discount cards, which can be used with various vendors throughout Elk Grove. Each player on your team will only be asked to sell 2 cards at $10 each. Watch for the information.
Coaches’ Pizza Night
In October, we will host a coaches’ pizza night, so that coaches can come together to share their success stories as well as their “don’t try this” stories. Stay tuned for details.
Pictures on our Website
We would like to place pictures on our website of our teams and players. If you would like to submit pictures of your players in action, and you have permission from yourparents, please submit them to George Rettele, our webmaster at pleasantgrovewebmaster@elkgrovesoccer.
com. We will select the best of the best and post them. If there is a story behind the picture, tell us that too, and we will include it.
Coaching Tip of the Week
24 Hour Rule. Tell your parents not to approach you with concerns about the game until 24 hours have passed. This saves you or the parent from saying anything harmful.
Annual General Meeting
Our annual general meeting will be held in early December. All coaches, assistant coaches, and one guest of each are invited to attend. The meeting will include a complimentary dinner. At the meeting, we will discuss Club business, including nominations for open board positions
for 2008. Stay tuned for nomination information.
